There are many online food diary / calorie counting websites or apps but MyFitnessPal has several advantages:
  • MyFitnessPal can be accessed via the web or app
  • MyFitnessPal enables you to quickly and easily record your food consumption and automatically compute your calorie intake. Food items can be entered manually from an extensive database or by scanning bar codes on products. It also enables you to record standard meals and develop recipes.
  • Food notes can be added to each day’s entry – this will enable you to add additional details e.g. timing of the food/drink intake.
  • Sync with your Training Peaks account. The benefit of this is that after setting a Daily Calorie Goal the calorie counting in MyFitnessPal combined with the calculation of calories burnt in Training Peaks you can compare your Net Calories Consumed with your Daily Calorie Goal (Net Calories Consumed = Total Calories Consumed - Exercise Calories Burned).
  • MyFitnessPal can be shared with other people who use MyFitnessPal who can view and print your food diary themselves.
The calorie counting capability of something like MyFitnessPal is only as good as the data you feed it! A set of food digital scales is a very useful tool to have.
